The Girl Who Fell From The Sky by Heidi Durrow

A small, tightly written book that I can't stop thinking about. Rachel is the daughter of a black G.I. and a Danish mother. Her blue eyes and light skin make it hard for her to fit into either the black or white world. After her mother dies, under circumstances that reveal slowly through the book, she goes to live with her black grandmother in Oregon, where other characters come in to her life, making a fascinating story. This will be great for book clubs! Think The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison with more compassion, and less violence.
