The ...The Criss memoir is by far the best to date. The comment about the Frehley or Criss memoirs being difficult to sell to non-KISS fans has now been proven to be erroneous, as the Criss memoir made the N.Y. Times best sellers list.
Just when you thought that Simmons might be the "final word" about KISS, Peter levels the playing field and in a blunt and very moving memoir fills the reader in on the other aspect of KISS: control and ego. Simmons wrote that KISS often ran on two flat tires. Peter and Ace, on all accounts, liked to numb their senses. At the same time, however, KISS had (and perhaps still has) two over-inflated tires. Two (Simmons and Stanley) original members have always had a view of their own song writing and musical abilities that far exceeded reality. Psycho Circus is classic case. Peter's memoir attests to what many fans knew decades ago. Peter and Ace were creatively constrained in KISS.
Probably the best part of the memoir is the account Peter's breast cancer victory and subsequent efforts to generate awareness. The humanitarian in Peter Criss transcends KISS and is worth more than any gold or platinum record. The public recognition in this area is a silencer when it comes to those whom like to level cheap shots at the real Catman.
Congratulations to Peter Criss on a great memoir.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3611723932558635000.post-37620922130493248812013-07-28T00:50:53.972-05:002013-07-28T00:50:53.972-05:00I thought this book would be more of a fantasy adv...I thought this book would be more of a fantasy adventure/mystery. It sort-of was, but it was more about things that can be done, or maybe will be able to be done, with modern computer technology. It bored me after a while, but I finished it just to see the outcome. Translating is a tricky business, because it offers choices and it can be difficult to know what the original writer might have said if he had been speaking the other language. I know Rane quite well, but I don't know whether my translation represents his own sometimes formal way of thinking, or whether I have added a shade more formality. I'd love to see a couple examples. I think translating into English would be a nightmare! The language would be better described as "formal" as opposed to amore casual writing style. It did not detract from the story at all. To a certain extent I believe the same would go for female readers who don't have any sisters. The reviews I've read are all filled with praise...for reminding the reader of their own sisters, and domestic situation. A larger problem for me was I heartily disliked Martha Dodd, the daughter. In spite of all the things she witnessed happening around her she was very enamored of the Nazi party and had several romantic liaisons with many high-powered Nazi officials. It is only after the `Night of Long Knives", when many of Hitler's enemies are murdered does she finally begin to awaken to the nightmare that was starting to unfold in Europe.

What I did take away from this book was the number of missed opportunities our government had to stop Hitler and his regime. In addition as ineffectual as Dodd was he did warn many in the State Department of the rising tide of hatred and because he was not a member of the diplomatic inner-circle much of his advice was ignored. As often in politics, it's not what you know it's whom you know.UKhttp://somuch2thank4.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3611723932558635000.post-11938118368244497022012-05-25T00:54:52.551-05:002012-05-25T00:54:52.551-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Jp Resorthttp://www.jaypeehotels.com/vasant_continental/index.aspxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3611723932558635000.post-26680980956514204552012-05-23T07:05:04.544-05:002012-05-23T07:05:04.544-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Jp Resorthttp://www.jaypeehotels.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3611723932558635000.post-41597193560160134952012-05-02T09:12:14.613-05:002012-05-02T09:12:14.613-05:00I have read this book before, This book is great.
